The fabric

Oh this one is truly amazing – the colours are vibrant and gorgeous and I had a hard time deciding what to make as its perfect for so many beautiful garments. Its soft, has a subtle drape like all SUF cotton lycras and coordinates with quite a few of the SUF solids or the black and white YDS. This fabric is perfect for Anzac day celebrations which is just around the corner.

Patterns used

I originally planned to sew this for both my girls (skirt for one and a dress for the other), however once I decide my eldest daughter would suit the Doris Skirt from Misusu Patterns and I realised there was a ladies version it was a done deal that the fabric would be used for a mummy and me set.

For my daughters skirt I paired the poppies with black and white YDS and some beautiful berrylicious solid which came together perfectly. For my own skirt I kept it a little more conservative and used black solid for the back and pockets along with YDS. This is a great pattern and perfect for using small amounts of different fabrics. It gives the pencil skirt a new dimension and the options to create a great garment are endless.

Pre-washing is not essential but recommended

Pre wash in cold water on a gentle cycle
Add a tablespooon of salt to the wash – this helps seal the colour within the fabric thus reducing fading.
Add 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle. the liquid will freshen up your laundry and help colours maintain their intensity.
Dryer use is not recommended – as the heat will eventually cause fabrics to fade.
Line dry without delay – inside out, away from direct sunlight

Shrinkrage rate is approximately 3-5%. All fabric has been preshrunk, however additional shrinkage may occur.
